Hey There!
My name is Caroline States, and I'm an illustrator based out of Chicago, IL.
I fell into children's book illustration almost by accident, when a regular at the coffee shop I was working at learned I had studied design and suggested I take a stab at illustrating the children's book he'd written. I securing the contract, and fell in love with creating for the eyes of kids. As an educated designer, I loved exploring how to bend and even break the "rules" of art to appeal to kids, while still creating a technically good composition. In my work before kid's books, I loved playing with bright colors and using light and movement to create a mood, and I feel like I've found a home for my bright and creative style in creating art for little ones.
I'm the illustrator of 2024 upcoming book Zip Splitzkins' Lost Words: Forgiveness, and a member of SCBWI. I'm currently working on the next book in the Zip Splitzkins' series, but am always open to meeting new authors and publishers. If my work appeals to you, I'd love to connect with you!
